Belly Draws
One of my favorite things to do for mothers in the last month of their pregnancy is the belly draw.
What is a belly draw? It is a drawn representation of the position of the baby inside the uterus.
I first use my hands to palpate the position of the baby. Then I use my nontoxic watercolor crayons to draw the baby’s position on the mother’s belly. I like to also add a placenta and cord, to give a more accurate representation of how the baby is situated. Once it is dry, it doesn’t smudge. It easily rinses off in the shower once you are ready to remove it.
I am no master artist. I just do the best that I’m able. Some drawings come out looking better than others. But all families seem pleased with the results. Children especially seem to love the visual of how their baby is positioned while growing in their mama’s belly.
Thanks to my amazing clients for giving me permission to share their beautiful bellies!
