What’s In My Birth Bag?

I recently shared pictures of my prenatal bag. Next up: my birth bag. In addition to this bag, I take to births my resuscitation bag and my newborn bag. If there is interest, I can show what’s in those bags as well.

When you open up the main compartment, you’ll see lots of other smaller bags. I have a hemorrhage bag (with herbal tinctures, homeopathic remedies, and pharmaceuticals, all used to stop a postpartum hemorrhage), a birth bag with essentials if I were to walk into a home with a precipitous birth and not much time to get everything out, sterilized instruments pack (scissors, hemostats, and metal cord clamps), a sharps container to dispose of any needles, a box of herbal tinctures that I may use during a birth, IV fluids (you can’t see them in this photo), a small box with IV supplies, and a suturing bag with everything I would need to suture a perineal tear. The paper bag that you see folded up contains sitz bath herbs to use after a birth. In the top flap of the bag, I carry electrolyte powders, sterile lubricant and urinary catheters.

The front pocket has more herbal and homeopathic remedies, a cord ring and cord tape, an adult pulse oximeter, sterile gloves and gauze, and syringes in various sizes.

One side pocket has homeopathic remedies. LOTS! I am studying to become a homeopath, so what else would you expect to find in my bag?

Here are the remedies all laid out to see.

The other side pocket has a spare doppler and a charger for my ipad.

The back pocket has a heating pad, sterile water and syringes, a flashlight, headlamp, and bags for the placenta.

If you have any questions, leave them as a comment and I’d be happy to answer them.
